Songs From the Sanctuary - Volume II

This compilation of sacred songs marks the second volume in the Songs From The Sanctuary series. The majority of these selections were recorded at a live concert in the Samuel P. Miller chapel on the campus of Princeton Theological Seminary, November 2005.

The concert, “Marching to Zion: Sacred Songs from the African American Worship Experience” was the vision of Dr. Martin Tel, director of music at PTS.  The concert featured the genius and unique talent of Michael R. Gittens, master musician, the PTS Chapel Choirs, guest voices and assistant Minister of music John Williams from the Union Baptist Church Mass Choir, Trenton New Jersey, pastored by the Reverend Simeon D. Spencer (PTS 1998), the Reverend Carla A. Jones as narrator, and congregational voices from the seminary community and many nations, including the United States, Canada, South America, Europe, Asia, and Africa.

This powerful expression of worship through anthems, hymns, spirituals, and gospel songs is not only  characteristic of the heart and soul of the Black worship experience in  America, but also represents the reach, witness, and influence of these sacred songs to Christians, worship experiences, and social movements around the world.
